EEC Student Receives Infinitec Outstanding AAC User Award
- News
This past April, one of our preschool students received an award for the outstanding use of his assistive technology!
The Board of Education proudly recognized Ben, a student at Early Education Center, for winning the Infinitec Outstanding AAC (Augmentative Alternative Communication) User Award. This honor celebrates his remarkable dedication, resilience, and progress in using his AAC device. Ben was one of just 11 award recipients from Lake County, Cook County, and the Northern suburbs. He celebrated this special achievement alongside his family and educational team at the 22nd Annual Infinitec North Coalition Dinner & Awards Celebration.
Ben is a non-speaking student who gains his voice through assistive technology on his iPad. AAC technology—which can be a device, system, or tool—supports individuals with and without disabilities by enabling inclusive education and fostering meaningful communication beyond the classroom. Without this technology, students like Ben might often be underestimated or misunderstood.
Thanks to AAC, Ben is now able to express himself confidently. He cheerfully greets EEC staff, asks for hugs, sings songs, shares his likes and dislikes, and is becoming fluent in both English and Spanish. Ben is thriving academically, demonstrating skills at or above his grade level. We couldn’t be prouder of all that Ben has achieved!
