The Round Lake Middle School music program fosters students’ fullest potential as competent musicians and aesthetic performers in a positive environment that nurtures everyone’s abilities as holistic learners through which they will learn important life skills that will help develop strong leaders and productive members of society.
Our students have the opportunity to showcase their musical abilities during school / district band and choir concerts.
Our students also participate in community performances, field trips, and more!
Band
Middle school band is a dynamic program where students in grades 6 through 8 come together to learn and perform music. In this setting, students have the opportunity to explore a variety of musical instruments, such as brass, woodwinds, and percussion. The band program focuses on developing fundamental musical skills, including reading music, playing in rhythm, and mastering techniques specific to each instrument.
Students will have the opportunity to perform at school concerts, district concerts, and community events.

Choir
Middle school choir is a collaborative program where students in grades 6 through 8 learn to blend their voices with others, enhancing their ability to work as a team while also developing their individual vocal skills. In this setting, students learn to sing in harmony, develop their vocal technique, and understand the fundamentals of music theory, such as pitch, rhythm, and dynamics.
Students will have the opportunity to perform at school concerts, district concerts, and community events.

Intro to Music
Students will explore the fundamentals of music through listening, performing, and creating. They will study various musical styles, learn about influential musicians, and understand how music connects to culture and everyday life. Students will develop basic music theory skills, including reading and interpreting musical notation, and will have opportunities to engage with instruments. This course is designed to provide students with a foundation for appreciating and participating in the world of music.

Creating Live Music: Guitar, Drums, & More
Students will develop performance skills by focusing on playing and collaborating with others. They will learn techniques specific to piano, guitar, and drums while exploring how these instruments work together in live music settings. Students will practice reading chord charts, understanding rhythms, and performing a variety of musical styles. Emphasis will be placed on teamwork, creativity, and building confidence as performers. This course is designed to help students develop the skills needed to create and share live music as a group.

Digital Music Production
Students will explore the process of composing and producing music using digital tools such as GarageBand. They will learn how to create melodies, harmonies, and rhythms, as well as how to arrange and edit their music using software. Students will experiment with virtual instruments, loops, and effects to produce original tracks across various genres. The course emphasizes creativity, technical skills, and an understanding of the fundamentals of digital music production, preparing students to express their musical ideas in a modern, digital setting.
